Default Moving to England

Moving to England

Hi

I will be moving to England in 2 or 3 months and I have some shipping question:

1. How long it takes to ship from east coast to London
2. What are the rates for 20' container and per cubic feet?
3. Some companies are quoting me per pound – what is better for me?
4. What is the cost for insurance? Do I need it?
5. Can I put transformers into the electrical appliances?
6. Door to Door service what do I get?
7. What is your best advise for me about international moving to England

Thank you

Bob

1 4-6 weeks

2 There is no standard 20 foot rates, depends on where your moving from. So before any one can even give you a ball park information, they have to know where your moving from and talk to you about a couple issues.

3 Companies will charge by weight, space or flat rate. Which one is best for you, well depends on your situation. If your moving a lot of books, tools and heavy items, space is probably the way to go. If your moving some big but light items, then weight might be the way to go. If you have enough items to fill most of the 20 foot container then it might most sense to take a flat rate. Again, depends on your situation.

4 Insurance is not mandatory, but if you were my friend there is no way I would let you ship any thing without it. If something comes up missing or broken, if you do not have insurance you get nothing in return. What if the cotnainer comes up missing? What if when they are using the crane to lift the container off or on the truck to the ship, they bang it to hard accidentally? Cost will vary from company to company, but we sell ours at $20 per $1,000 of coverage for a $0 deductible.

5 Yes some people use transformers on electirical appliances when they go over seas. The feed back we have gotten over the years is that the transformers are expensive and do not always work so well or last long. Most people do not take electrical appliances because of this.

6 Door to Door service is the full service move. You open the front door a crew comes in and does every to prepare all the items you want moved, loads them in the container, transports the container to port, ships the goods to the destination port, clears customs for you, delivers the container to your new residence, unloads the container, unpacks every thing and removes all the debris.

7 Best advise is to start now talking to some professional moving companies. Do not look for the cheapest price avaialable. Not all moving companies are the same and if your being quoted a price that is far less than others, then something is up. Remember the saying, if it is to good to be true, then it is not true. Buy insurance!

Hope this helps you!

Mike

I agree with Mike 100%.

Only other thing I would ask is to emphasize that you need to carefully read what is included and excluded in any rates you obtain. You will probably have some additional charges at destination for port fees, inspections, etc., but your mover should be able to give you an idea as to what those charges may be. Remember, the pound is very strong against the dollar and all charges will hurt.

Best of luck,

Manny

Default Moving to England – my advice

Hi Bob

I would like to add few things since Mike and Manny covered most of your question.

Depend on your shipping method: 20' container will be faster than lift van to reach London. The reason for that: shipping crate will be consolidating into 40' container and it takes a bit longer. The container have straight forward depart and arrival dates. Crate will an estimate time.

The cost of will be different from customer to customer depend the requirement of the shipper from the international movers. Packing, unpacking, loading' custom crates and the volume of your shipment will be the main factor for the price. We suggest to you to use the cubic feet calculator in order to determine the volume.

Marine insurance – we strongly suggest you to purchase all risk insurance. Please note – PBO – Pack by Owner boxes and items will not be insured for damages only for loses

Transformers: depend on the appliances – for some of them you can take transformers [stereo, blenders vacuum etc.], and for some of then I strongly advise not to mess with transformers [coffee maker, heater etc.]

Door to door service -I recommend to all to select this option from the international movers estimate sheet. It will save you lot of time and headache.

The best advice to you is to relax and to read the small words in the contract. It will save you time and money

Good luck

Dan

Hi Bob,

The above is pretty clear. But extremly important, check what's included and what is not, and also what is "hidden"... get a full comprehensive price....

Also, Dan gave some additional points that are very much worth to review....
