Default Calgary, Canada --> Melbourne, Australia

We probably have between 20-30 boxes, and I'd guesstimate the total weight to be somewhere around a 1000 pounds, give or take a couple hundred.

We had one overseas shipper come by, eyeball the things (this was before things were packed up), and gave us a quote of CDN$4100 for slowest option!!!! -- Granted, I think the weight estimate was a little high (she guessed 1500-1600 lbs), but even so, $4100 is brutal!

Is that really a ballpark figure I'm looking at? I know of a couple who shipped from Vancouver to Japan, maybe a tad less than us, but for CDN$700 or so!

Default Japan and Australia got different prices

hi

in these forum we are not discussing prices. it is a professional place to answer your questions and not a market place

I really don't understand your question? if there is one.

I think bottom line you will need to pack your stuff (be aware of insurance coverage) and than ask the movers to provide you with an estimates

Estimate's should be more or less the same give or take $500.
please note Australia and new Zealand have the option for fast delivery via direct ocean lines but in most cases household goods will be shipped via the far east.

you can not compare rates to Japan if your final destination is Australia.

you wrote:

"......$4100 is brutal" --> no such thing !!! you can decide to go with someone else than.

good luck

dan

Of course not a direct comparison, but ball park figures can be made in one's head. $700 to $4100 is a 585% jump -- both for destination countries that are across the pacific and the starting point isn't too far off from each other.

A couple hundred = 200. So, give or take a couple hundred from 1000 lbs = between 800 to 1200 lbs.

For that much, most likely.
